The Annual Hodgson Cup
The Hodgson Cup was formed in 2018 after the huge success that our Masters Team had in the over 35's National Trophy.
Prior to playing in the final the Masters team wanted a practice game to just finely tweek some parts of the game. The youngsters who aren't able to play for the Vets all gathered a team together to play them.
The diving force behind the Masters Team is Helen Hodgson who has been a long and dedicated member of the club. She represents the reason we all play hockey and sees age as no barrier at all.
We all enjoyed it so much that is was decided on the sideline that it should become an annual thing.
The Hodgson cup is played on the day of the End of Season Evening Dinner.
The competition currently involves a “nannas” team of over 35s vs the “youth” team which is to be made up of members from the rest of the club. Helen is currently the Masters Captain and arranges the nannas .
The youth Captain is chosen by age and captaincy within the club. The Ladies 1st XI captain should take on the role if under 35. If the captain is not under 35 then it is passed to ladies 2nd XI captain, then the ladies 3rd XI captain and then lades 4th XI captain.
The youth need to recruit a teenager, someone in their 20s and 30s and must include members from at least 3 of the ladies teams so captains please let your captain know who from your squad is keen and I’ll be in touch with them.
Men - we haven’t forgotten you! Currently we ask if you could umpire the game.
Regardless of the result at the end of 70 minutes we shall end with penalty shuffles for some excitement!
Teas shall be provided by the nannas at coach lane afterwards.
All members of the club are welcome to this- if you want to play, support or just come and eat teas please come down!
This event will build as the years go on with opportunities for more and more to play hockey on the day.
