In unusual 2s fashion we all arrived on time, despite a few missed turns and just about in the right kit!
No music in the changing room, so a chance to discuss, in Beck’s words, the ‘on trend’ bag Chell was sporting! The contents… a phone, banana, house keys and lavender scented poo bags…. incase ‘hypothetically speaking’ someone needed to be sick in a car!
Warm up on… Music on…. 80’s classics blasting to keep in the theme of playing old school Darlo!
As expected Darlo came out harder than Bon Jovi and Newcastle were living on a pray after they won an early short corner but no go-go thanks to our solid back line… and a careless whisper from Verity to put off their attack.
Newcastle matched their attacks and won a series of short corners but the stalemate continued… Darlo looked for the route one threat which unfortunately meant our press endured an aerial onslaught… which took out our midfielder General Hels!
Chell is still looking for Hels water bottle….
Newcastle reached half time 0-0 and re grouped with the support of coach and newly employed assistant coach with the snacks and bandages!
The midfield engine was in full swing and driving all the attacks forward. Some great play down the left from Jenny and Chloe created space and time in the middle for Emily to find Alexis in the D…. And the rest is history 1-0 up!
In Jenny’s words ‘2 would be better right now’…. And Chloe tried as she might with 3 shots at goal before Anna arrived to ‘smash’ the ball into the stupid cushioned goals! Whilst we might not have enjoyed the satisfying noise of scoring a goal we had the result the team deserved!
Darlo tried but Newcastle remained resilient and managed the game out well with a strong press. At points boxing them into the corner with what felt like the whole team in their 25!
Awesome effort from everyone in black …. So much effort exerted we nearly forgot a team mate but no one gets left behind thanks to a footwell and a seat being moved forward minutes from the pub!
